I did read a young fan's comment that if she kills HP off, it will be like a betrayal of all the books gone before. I kind of think the same thing.
P.S. I wonder if HP is one of the soul receptacle thingies for Voldemort and that's why he has to die? BTW, I was looking up the interview on the BBC and read this quote from JRK: "There is one thing that if anyone guessed I would be really annoyed, as it is kind of the heart of it all. And it kind of explodes everything - and no one's quite got there, but a couple of people have skirted it." That sounds so very intriguing!
Kat, that's a great theory, and since she's played up the "Harry has a piece of Voldemort in him" (does HP have slash fic?) LOL. Anyway, it makes a lot of sense that Harry would have to be killed and then something else used to bring him back to life, in which the whole "killing off thing" is just JK PR, keeping the public interest high.
Anyway, will wait until the book finds out to learn the truth, but, I still stand by my statement. If at the end of that book, Harry Potter remains dead -- even if he's happily in heaven with his parents -- ohhhhh.... I bet that's it. Harry has a choice between living and staying dead with his parents, and he chooses life. Oh, I bet I'm right here, because that makes total sense. The one thing that Harry wants, and she's made this clear, is his parents. He has to make a choice at the end, his parents, and living.
And OK, getting back on track, if he chooses to stay dead, then I'm not buying the book. No. Not even. Hate that sort of stuff....
Ahhhhh! That'll be awful! I love the series, but I'll be terribly disappointed if, after a 7-book struggle, Harry dies. What a letdown that would be. I had thought at one point she assured her readers that Harry, Ron, and Hermione would live. But then, only JKR knows for sure, and she's not telling until the book is out. Sigh.
I think she'd get a lot of hate mail and maybe even some death threats if she killed off Harry.
